I am very proud of these rooms that my client's, my staff, and I worked on.

You can see that styles are different, color palettes are different, and the overall mood for each project is different.

My personal thanks to the owners of these wonderful spaces.

If you would like to talk to me just drop me an email or call me at 757 497 6115.

Chromophobia
Chromophobia is the fear of colors.  No, not the dislike of certain hues such as green or pink but the extreme fear that makes a person feel panic, irregular heart beat, extreme sweating, mouth becoming dry, inability to speak or express, occasional shaking, extreme anxiety, shortness of breath, relentless sweating and nausea.   It could be fear of black, purple, or just yellow.

Interior designers study and apply the psychology of color.  True, we don't design within the extremes of chromophobia.  However, color psychology has been around perhaps for thousands of years, mainly within the religious context; white
is purity, purple for divinity attire, etc.  The influence of color has dramatically changed through time, more so with the American Pop Culture influence.

Everywhere you go and everything you pick up or use has been designed with the effect of color over product.  Restaurants are orange or red because it stimulates appetite.  Hospitals are soft and of wood tones because it relaxes and provides comfort.  Yellow is hot, clear blue is cool, and the cars we drive are just not pastels in paint.

What are your favorite colors?  What are the colors you wear the most?  If you squint your eyes and look around your rooms what colors jump at you?

Space Planning is the arranging of furnishings, fixtures, and accessories in a room to provide visual appeal as well as comfort for the users.   An interior designer is able to provide this service with the added elements of color, texture, proportion, traffic flow, family routine, and many more.  It is not uncommon for someone to buy a sofa that was on a floor of a 3,000sqft warehouse or retail outlet to have it delivered and find out that it is too large.  And even if it fits it dwarfed all the other furnishings in the room.

Problems like this one can be avoided with proper Space Planning.  A good space planner will provide you with a shopping list of what you need, colors, textures, and above all maximum dimensions and style.

SPACE PLANNING
Designer TIPS
.  Put your money in the rooms where you spend the most time.  Having a $50K kitchen for microwaving TV dinners is not a smart investment

. Antiques are great and beautiful but think twice before buying an antique sofa; unless you want to spend thousands repairing it throughout the years.

.  Save some headaches and money too.  Take an interior designer shopping with you for accessories and furnishings.  A couple of hours in fees will be well worth it to you.
